Redesigners Go Green

An article by Val Sharp and Sandi Gerrard

As indicated in a recent article in the Wall Street Journal, the redesign trend -- when interior designers promise to work with the furniture you already own -- is growing.  And what could be “greener” than using your existing furnishings instead of buying new things?

If you already have a house full of furniture and accessories, you probably don’t need to buy anything new to redecorate your home.  You may just need a fresh eye and a skilled redesigner to make everything old seem new again.

Often it’s simply a matter of correct furniture placement or a change in the use of a particular room.  Or perhaps you have great artwork but it’s not hung and displayed properly to work with the furniture and accessories.

Many people are now inheriting items or combining households and are challenged by the amount of things they have.  Furniture is just placed anywhere, and knickknacks are boxed and put in the basement.  Many of those things can be made to look amazing if used in unique ways.

Even homes with “garage sale” items can be made to work.  It’s not about what you own, but how what you own is placed and displayed that creates beauty in your home.

“Redesigners can give your home the Cinderella Treatment,” says Val Sharp, founder and past president of the Canadian Redesigners Association (CRDA).  “We take your things, combine them with our talent and expertise, and magic happens to your home.”

“Our clients are always awed by the results” says Sandi Gerrard,  President of the CRDA.  “Sometimes they are just craving a change without a huge expenditure, so redesign is the perfect solution.”

The CRDA has members across Canada to assist homeowners with their cost effective redesign services.  To contact a member in your area, please visit www.canadianredesigners.org.
